MBA and Higher Education

Talk to someone who made the decision you are making, either way.

This is the only domain on the site where the most useful Guide might be the one who says no. Two years and a large amount of money is a decision that deserves more than a ranking table, and the people worth asking are the ones who went, the ones who chose not to, and the ones who went and would not again.

  • Whether the MBA pays back in your specific domain
  • ISB against a one-year international programme
  • What people who skipped it did instead
Guides

The moves MBA Guides get asked about most.

Every Guide is a working professional in MBA, with their work history, a rate they set themselves, and every rated session on the profile. These are the conversations they have.

  • Working professional to full-time programme

The opportunity cost is the whole decision and it is the part people model worst. Two years of foregone salary plus fees is rarely the number in anyone's head.

  • MBA to a domain switch

The programme opens the interview and does not close it. People expecting it to do both are the ones disappointed at placement.

  • Skipping it deliberately

The path exists and is badly documented, because the people who took it were not writing about not going to business school.

  • Guides in MBA set their own rate and their own hours. Browse who is on, read a full profile, and pay only for the minutes you talk.

In their words

What people in MBA actually ask.

Not topics. The questions people type, from the situations they arrive with.

  • Will an MBA actually pay back in my domain, or just move me sideways?
  • India or abroad, given what I want to do afterwards?
  • Who skipped it in my field, and what did they do instead?
  • Is a one-year programme taken as seriously as a two-year one?
  • I have four years of experience. Is that early, late or right?
Common moves

Three transitions, and what makes each one hard.

The difficulty is rarely where people expect it, which is most of why a conversation beats a search.

Questions

What MBA Seekers ask before booking.

It depends on the domain you are leaving, the one you are entering and the programme, and the honest answer is no for more people than the marketing suggests. The most useful conversation is often with someone in your target role who does not have one.

One-year programmes cost less and give you less time to switch; two-year ones are built around the internship, which is the actual switching mechanism. If you are changing domains, that difference is the decision.

For most Indian programmes, yes; for several abroad, it is at the early end. What matters more is whether you can say what you want it for, which admissions and Guides will both test.

Ask someone who has already been through it.
